All the effort put into effective Supply Chain Logistics upstream is wasted without warehouses that are designed, equipped, and managed to perform at the same high level as all the activities that have gone before. Not only that, creating warehousing/distribution center operations that will be effective well into the future cannot be done with singular independent solutions.

A new Warehouse Management System won't elevate productivity all by itself. RF technology can actually make things worse in the wrong application. Racks, aisles, lift trucks, carrousels, and so forth all need to be designed, specified, and selected as parts of an overall process. Further, the process and its physical components must consider not only what the business looks like today, but what it is likely to become over the next several years.

Finally, none of these are likely to deliver the intended performance without straightforward ways to motivate and measure performance at the people level; without the means to identify and remove process and environmental obstacles to individual and group performance.
