USFreightways Forms Global Logistics Division
Trucking and supply-chain services company USFreightways Corp. has formed a new operating group that combines the company's logistics and freight-forwarding divisions—USF Worldwide Logistics.
Doug Christensen, head of USF Logistics, has been appointed president and chief executive officer of the new group.
The parent company's chief executive officer and chairman, Cam Carruth, said that USFreightways would continue independent operation of its various divisions, which provide services ranging from warehousing to online retail supply-chain management to assembly and distribution.
Carruth said the new group was formed to meet expanding global-business demands from customers.
USF Worldwide Logistics employs 4,800 people, and operates 850 tractors and 1,800 trailers. Its distribution network includes 7 million square feet of warehouse space, 13 crossdocking operations, and 65 branches in North America and Asia.
