Universally-Mountable Photoelectric Sensor

The World-Beam QS18 is a new universally-mountable photoelectric sensor that measures H35 mm (1.38-in.) × W15 mm (0.59-in.) × D33.2 mm (1.31-in.). The manufacturer states that because its single housing style fits almost all mounting requirements, the sensor can replace hundreds of existing sensors, meet or exceed their performance, and take up less space.

The unit is equipped with an 18 mm (0.7-in.) threaded nose to directly replace 18 mm (0.7-in.) diameter barrel sensors. The standard mounting hole configuration also allows direct replacement of numerous non-threaded rectangular sensors. It is well suited for volume OEM applications in industries that include material handling, packaging, assembly, printing, and converting.

The sensor features an opposed mode sensing range of 20 m (67 ft); a retro-reflective mode range of up to 6.5 m (21 ft); and convergent models have a 16 mm (0.63-in.) or 43 mm (1.7-in.) focus. Sensing modes also include regular and wide-angle diffuse (proximity mode) with ranges up to 450 mm (18-in.).

In addition, the sensor features versatile output configurations and self-diagnostics. Users can choose complementary NPN (sinking) or PNP (sourcing) outputs, one normally open and one normally closed, each capable of switching up to a 100 mA load.

The sensor built with ABS sealed leak-proof housing that can withstand tough applications and meets the IP67 and NEMA 6 standards for harsh environments. Integral protective circuitry guards the sensors against reverse-polarity and transient voltages, short circuits, and false pulse on power-up.
