TNT's Economy Freight Service In Asia Records Double Digit Growth Over Six Months
TNT Express, leading provider of integrated express services, recently announced that revenues from its Economy Freight service in Asia recorded a double digit growth in the last six months. The economy freight service offers customers a competitively-priced door-to-door delivery service on a specific date within two to five days from dispatch. The Economy Freight service is available across TNT's Southeast Asia network as well as between Southeast Asia and China and between Southeast Asia and Europe.
Onno Boots, Regional Managing Director, TNT Asia said, "We made this service and the added convenience it brings, available to our customers nine months ago in Southeast Asia. The response since then has been very strong. In fact, our total customer base has grown by 25 per cent as a result. Our unique air and road networks and infrastructure built over time have allowed us to provide customers the widest range of transport to suit their delivery needs. Customers have seen the value in our fast, reliable and economical freight service."
TNT's air and road network are seamlessly linked enabling customers to choose a variety of transport combinations that offer a mixture of economy and speed. TNT's Boeing 747-400 ER Freighter flies three times a week between Singapore, Shanghai and Europe whilst the Asia Road Network (ARN) which provides a 5000 kilometre long road network is wholly managed by TNT and stretches across 125 cities in five countries. The ARN is 30 per cent cheaper than air transportation and three times faster than sea transportation.
The ARN has proven to be a useful service for TNT customers. In November 2008, cargo operations into and out of Thailand were disrupted when Suvarnabhumi airport in Bangkok was closed. To minimise delay of goods originally intended for air transportation, TNT activated its business continuity plan and re-routed goods onto its ARN.
Onno Boots added, "Situations like the recent Bangkok airport closure demonstrate the value of viable alternative freight services. It also shows that our infrastructural investments are bearing fruit. We are the undisputed leader in express logistics in Europe and will continue to extend that position in Asia."
The Economy Freight service is one of three services TNT launched in Southeast Asia in June last year. TNT's Economy Freight service is on average 30 per cent cheaper than its Express Freight and Freight Plus services.
Last week, TNT officially opened the re-modelled and expanded Regional Hub in Singapore. The S$20M Hub will significantly increase the capacity for time-sensitive freight passing through Singapore.
