IBMof eServer appliances, including Intel-based Linux and Windows web-hosting appliance servers, are designed to handle extremely high volumes of specific tasks in an e-business infrastructure. The manufacturer states that, with these appliances, customers will be able to deploy pre-configured servers, reducing set up time and providing "plug and play" capability when constructing their "server-farms."
The five new appliances include:
- The xSeries 130 (Windows) and the x135 (Linux): two fast web-hosting appliance servers that are based on a 1U (1.75 inch high) rack server, which optimizes space usage while offering features like hot-swap hard disk drives and integrated system management.
- The xSeries 150: offers high performance and scalability up to 1.7 TB, and a throughput of 44 MB/sec. The appliance is offered as either a tower or rack model, providing storage at the departmental and the workgroup level in heterogeneous environments.
- The iSeries 400 model 270: a Lotus Domino server appliance designed for small-to-medium business customers who want to connect through e-mail, run Domino applications, and collaborate on projects or host a Website on a single serverƒn
- The iSeries 400 model 820 ¡V the industry¡¦s first Lotus Domino server appliance to deliver Silicon-on-Insulator (SOI) technology. Available in Uni, 2-way, or 4-way processor configurations.
The xSeries servers are based on the manufacturer¡¦s X-Architecture, a blueprint incorporating the latest mainframe technologies into industry standard Intel-based servers.
