SEKO Detroit Expands To New Office

SEKO, a global provider of freight forwarding and logistics solutions, recently moved its Detroit operations into a larger, state-of-the-art logistics center in Romulus, MI. The new office is a full service operation capable of handling all types of transportation needs including domestic and international shipping, customs brokerage and time-definite ground transportation. The office operates 24/7 and is located within close proximity to the Detroit Metropolitan Airport, serving all geographic areas.

The SEKO Detroit office move was prompted by strong customer growth and increased business activity. Station owners Tanya and Michael Bartelo began the operation in 2003 with eight employees and focused primarily on serving the domestic market. Within four years of operation, they have nearly tripled the office staff to 22 employees, and have developed a full-service operation catering to both domestic and international shipping.

The new SEKO Detroit facility offers a warehouse storage capacity of more than 22,000 sq. feet of total warehouse space, including additional racked storage of more than 8,300 sq. feet. The facility provides comprehensive warehouse and distribution services, utilizing the SEKO Warehouse Management System (WMS) to provide online access to inventory status, shipment release notification and various reporting functions. Security is maintained with video surveillance, monitored 24/7. Unauthorized personnel must remain in secured areas unless access is granted to the building by qualified SEKO employees.

Essential to the operation is the strong domestic department that provides flexible services to a diverse client base. Additionally, the international department handles all modes of transportation to every region throughout the world. SEKO Detroit employs licensed customs brokers to handle import transactions, with experience in handling all forms of Other Government Agencies (OGA) requirements.

General Manager and Strategic Partner Tanya Bartelo of SEKO Detroit stated: "Customer service has been a primary element in achieving the significant growth of the operation. This is an area which distinguishes SEKO Detroit from many of its competitors. While SEKO Detroit utilizes the SEKO Web-based application suite of systems, SEKO RED, it also places a high degree of importance on personal communication, providing information to the customer to manage all aspects of the supply chain, from origin to final delivery."

William Wascher, President and CEO of SEKO stated: "We are very pleased with the rapid success of our Detroit office and its emergence on the world trade scene. In a very short period of time, it has helped the SEKO Global Logistics network attain a 24 percent increase in year-to-date international revenues, which contrasts with the industry average of 2.4 percent annually. During the same period, growth in domestic product has increased an average of eight percent, which compares with the industry average of 0.6 percent, indicating that SEKO Detroit's management has achieved a strong market foothold in both international and domestic freight forwarding. "
