Power Freight Systems Accelerates 3PL Logistics With CCSF Certified Processes

As a TSA Certified Cargo Screening Facility (CCSF) in the San Francisco area, Power Freight Systems is able expedite airborne shipments with greater speed and consistency than many competitors.

San Francisco, CA(PRWEB)Power Freight Systems (http://www.powerfreight.com/) , an industry leader in third-party logistics (3PL), has announced that the company has successfully completed a rigorous certification exercise at its San Francisco California market facility, as part of the federal Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) Certified Cargo Screening Program (CCSP).

Upon successful completion of the CCSP process, logistics service providers such as Power Freight Systems are recognized by the TSA as authorized to operate a Certified Cargo Screening Facility (CCSF). The CCSF status provides several benefits to supply chain managers who require air transportation services for their products and materials.

"We are pleased that our distribution facility and security processes have been reviewed and approved by the TSA," said company CEO Malcolm Winspear. "This is a logical extension of the service we provide to our customers to ensure the unimpeded flow of their materials, particularly as escalating security requirements combined with reduced operating capacity, pose increased risks of delays in the air transport of cargo. The CCSP program benefits for certified providers will simplify our operations, add speed and flexibility to our air freight processing, and give our customers more flexibility in the handling of shipments."

The CCSP program was designed by the TSA in response to the Implementation Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act of 2007. This act specifies security screening requirements for all cargo on commercial aircraft. Per the Act, screening of cargo must take place at the piece level, with the legislation stipulating that 50% screening must be implemented by February 2009 and 100% screening by August 2010.

The TSA adopted the concept of pre-screening cargo at carefully selected and vetted facilities (CCSF facilities). This system of CCSF pre-screening was intended to relieve congestion at the airports and smooth the flow of air freight.

Transport from the CCSF facility to the secure cargo area at the airport must also be handled through agents approved by the TSA for this purpose. Power Freight Systems previously completed TSA certification as a carrier of screened cargo.

According to the TSA 7,500 tons of air cargo are loaded onto passenger planes every day. As one of only 345 certified cargo screening facilities (CCSFs), Power Freight Systems is helping to strike the balance between the security and the agility of air transport in global supply chains.
