Overnite to Open Special Services Operation in Texas
Overnite Transportation Co. will expand its truckload special services division with a new, dedicated-fleet operation in McGregor, TX.
The McGregor facility, which will employ 26 people and serve all of Texas, the West Coast and central United States, was slated to open on Feb. 21.
This is the second new dedicated operation Overnite has opened in two months. The other was a flatbed-fleet operation in Fulton, MS, on Jan. 1. The Feb. 21 opening brings the number of Overnite's special-services division operations to 10. Overnite's special-services division also has tractors in Richmond; Detroit; Chicago; Dayton, OH; Front Royal, VA.; North East, MD.; Jackson, TN.; and Greenville, SC. The division, which accounts for about 5 percent of Overnite's annual revenue, operates 300 trucks, with plans for another 80 to 90 units this year.
Overnite Transportation is the trucking subsidiary of Union Pacific Corp. It reported more than $1 billion in revenue for 1999. The less-than-truckload carrier has 13,000 employees and operates 166 service centers serving more than 45,000 points in all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Guam.
