The new PulseStar data collector is rugged, water-resistant reader of Dallas Semiconductor's iButtons. Upon successfully reading the button's ID number, the collector gives a vibrating pulse rather than an audio tone, enabling use in noisy industrial and manufacturing environments as well as in low-noise areas where extraneous noise is undesirable.

The collector is housed in a metal case void of beeper or LED openings, allowing the device to be completely sealed and facilitating use in harsh indoor and outdoor environments. In addition, the metal case is sealed with "O" rings, protecting internal components against possible shock damage associated with repetitive drops.

iButtons are small metal canisters containing a unique ID number that cannot be duplicated. When the device touches the button, the ID is stored in the reader's memory, along with the date and time of contact. The button can represent a person, a location, an item, or an action.

The device is well suited for applications that include security guard tour tracking, industrial maintenance rounds, and transport and container tracking.
