Motorola Division Headquarters Gets ISO Certification

Motorola Division Headquarters Gets ISO Certification

Motorola Energy Systems Group's Integrated Electronics Systems Sector, part of Motorola Inc., achieved ISO 9000 certification for its headquarters in Lawrenceville, Georgia, the company said Thursday.

Motorola Energy Systems Group (ESG) also has manufacturing facilities in Harvard, IL; Dublin, Ireland; Penang, Malaysia; and Tianjin, China.

Its facilities in Dublin, Penang and China have each received ISO 9000 certification, with the Illinois site in the initial registration-audit phase, Motorola said.

ISO 9000 is the internationally accepted standard that represents good management practices. It aims to ensure that an organization can consistently deliver products or services meeting client quality requirements. Compliance with the ISO 9000 standard is voluntary, and includes a family of standards designated to specify the requirements a business must meet in order to qualify within its business category.

The ISO 9000 certificate awarded to ESG's headquarters is the ISO 9001 standard, which establishes guidelines for an organization whose business processes range from design and development to production, installation and service.

"Completion of the ISO 9001 certification process has enabled us to clarify the inter-relationship of the various functions in the organization," Jerome Lofton, group quality systems manager for ESG, said. "This will aid in increasing overall efficiency, assist in on time delivery of product, and support our business in meeting or exceeding customer expectations."

To ensure continuing compliance to the ISO 9001 standards, a third party will audit ESG every 6 months.

Motorola is a recognized leader in quality-control practices, and helped pioneer the Six Sigma model.

Motorola ESG provides energy systems for portable electronics. ESG is part of Motorola's Integrated Electronic Systems Sector (IESS), which designs and manufactures a broad range of electronic components, modules, and integrated-electronic systems and products for automotive, industrial, transportation, navigation, communication and energy-systems markets.
