Telematics solutions provider Minorplanet Systems has enhanced its market-leading VMIgreenlight product | portfolio with the launch of its latest generation Data Collection Unit (DCU). The AEM6000 is a flexible and revolutionary vehicle communications hub with a number of innovative features, ranging from internet and email access through a touch screen and mini-computer, hands-free voice communications and sat-nav. Additionally, it offers direct connectivity to on-board systems like weighing and temperature controls and Internet capable devices such as Laptops and PDAs allowing full internet, intranet and back office integration.

Maximum efficiencies in fleet operation are made possible through daily health checks on the AEM6000. The unit has been designed with reliability firmly in mind incorporating ‘over-air' fault diagnosis, firmware and configuration check and upgrades to help keep the vehicle on the road. Automatic daily ‘health checks' are carried out by a central Minorplanet server in order to pro-actively monitor the quality of the data being transmitted by each unit. To safeguard the flow and accuracy of the data, the AEM6000 is fitted with an internal battery which seamlessly provides power when the voltage drops.

In addition to its minute-by-minute live tracking capabilities, the AEM6000 can be used in a number of applications such as job allocation, navigation and driver to base communications. An optional Accelerometer measures force in terms of heavy braking and harsh acceleration, hard cornering and rollover to help the fleet manager to identify and correct driver style and reduce wear and tear and likely accidents. An Incident Buffer records detailed second by second information including exact location, speed, force and vehicle environment in order to determine the precise details in the event of an incident or accident. This can also be activated by the driver where deemed appropriate.

Productivity and customer service can be enhanced by adding a mini-computer with fixed display screen to the AEM6000 to provide full two way communications through email, internet, job scheduling and sat-nav improving information flow between drivers, their organisation and customers. A CANbus interface is a further option that facilitates detailed information on both driver and vehicle performance including emissions, fuel and mileage reporting.

Minorplanet's CEO Terry Donovan comments: "Minorplanet constantly strives to bring greater functionality for drivers and fleet managers. The Minorplanet developed AEM6000 is our most innovative product yet, and sets a new benchmark in terms of vehicle management information (VMI)."

The AEM6000 empowers managers and drivers by providing them with the tools to proactively manage their fleets, an essential requirement in the face of increasing compliance and driver legislation, helping businesses to save thousands of pounds and minimise unproductive downtime.
