Logistics Award: Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics Wins A Silver Award From Ford Australia

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics, the global finished vehicle logistics provider, rubbed shoulders with a family of elite suppliers to the Ford Motor Company in Australia when it gained a 2006 Ford Supplier Excellence Silver Award for its services.

The awards recognise "suppliers who not only achieve the highest levels of cost, quality and delivery, but who also embrace the vision to build on Ford's legacy and drive innovation to new heights".

Frank Scarano, Vice President Purchasing, Ford Motor Company Australia, said: "During 2006 Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics piloted a programme with Ford Australia called "Right Car, Right Port. This programme provides the ability to change destination at origin or in transit and reduces land based transfer costs within Australia. This obviously reduces logistics costs and provides flexibility for Ford and its dealers to meet changing vehicle supply and demand in Australia."

Kevin Moore, Vice President, Commercial, Oceania, Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics, said in his reply: "Right Car, Right Port" enables Ford to better manage the distribution of its vehicles by getting its vehicles to market as quickly and efficiently as possible. It saves equipment resources, time and money and it is good for the environment as it cuts down unnecessary logistics movements."

The company handles tens of thousands of vehicles for Ford Australia including imports from Europe to all major Australian ports.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics www.2wglobal.com, is a leading global provider of outbound logistics services for the finished vehicle industry.
