GOLLOG Selects Unisys Logistics Solution To Manage Its Domestic And International Cargo Operations

Unisys Corporation announced that GOLLOG, the air cargo company of Brazilian air carrier GOL Transportes AƩreos, is the latest user of Unisys Logistics Management System (LMS). The Unisys LMS air cargo solution, built on modular, leading-edge technology, is used by air carriers and ground handlers globally, providing them the tools to manage a full range of logistics tasks, from the initial booking of a shipment through final delivery. The system is available either as a full application or via a Web-based model hosted by Unisys.

GOLLOG needed a new air cargo management system that could handle its rapid network growth, international expansion and expanding product line. Under the first phase of a planned rollout of the Unisys air cargo solution, GOLLOG chose the hosted version of Unisys LMS (HIS) to handle its cargo operations.

In order to meet GOLLOG's need for speed, Unisys had the system operational for international shipments within four months, which included training. Since the hosted application is accessed via a normal Web browser and on a pay-per-transaction basis, GOLLOG did not have to establish a new infrastructure, which in turn reduced IT investment and deployment time. GOLLOG has processed its international cargo orders using Unisys LMS since December 2007. The domestic operation will be going live in the coming weeks.

"Our main challenge is to keep up with our company's growth strategies and targets," said Cyro Fernando Lavarello, cargo director, GOLLOG. "Unisys LMS will allow us to focus our attention on our business, not on our IT support tools. It also gives us the confidence that as we grow our business, our IT system will not hold us back. We are now carrying in a month the amount of cargo that we carried in 12 months in 2001."

"We welcome GOLLOG to our cargo community especially as they represent a low-cost model and are growing rapidly, which is an ideal fit for the hosted / utility service model that we offer clients," said Christopher Shawdon, vice president, Logistics Solutions for Unisys. "We look forward to helping GOLLOG's cargo business reach even greater heights."

Established in 2001, GOLLOG has grown its market share year-over-year in the air cargo industry. It is currently ranked second in the Brazilian domestic cargo market. GOLLOG acquired Varig's long haul route network in March 2007 upon GOL's acquisition of the airline.
