Fujitsu Extends Environmental Initiative With Membership In U.S. EPA SmartWay Transport Partnership
Fujitsu Computer Systems Corporation has extended its broad environmental initiative by joining the SmartWay(SM) Transport Partnership www.epa.gov/smartway/transport/index.htm, a voluntary collaboration between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and organizations committed to significantly reducing greenhouse gases and air pollution in their freight operations. As part of the SmartWay Transport Partnership, Fujitsu will work to improve the environmental performance of its freight operations in order to contribute to the partnership's goal to reduce 33 to 66 million metric tons of carbon dioxide and up to 200,000 tons of nitrogen oxide per year by 2012.
As a SmartWay Transport partner, Fujitsu will:
- Extend and promote SmartWay initiatives to other Fujitsu groups
- Recruit non-SmartWay Transport partners into the partnership and continue to use partner carriers
- Incorporate partnership status into the contract bidding process, giving preference to SmartWay Transport partners
- Incorporate environmental clauses into shipping contracts
- Develop employee awareness programs focused on SmartWay Transport Partnership strategies
The SmartWay Transport Partnership
Launched in February 2004, the SmartWay Transport Partnership aims to achieve fuel savings of up to 150 million barrels of fuel per year. The partnership brings together major freight shippers, trucking companies, railroads, logistics companies and trade/professional associations to pursue mutually beneficial efficiencies that result in emissions reductions and other environmental improvements, as well as cost savings to the companies. The partnership currently has over 750 Partners.
Select Fujitsu Environmental Programs and Accomplishments

- The Fujitsu Environmental Protection Program (EPP) develops specific employee, facility, and manufacturing-based environmental programs. The current action plan focuses on products and services, global warming countermeasures, reinforcing governance, reinforcing risk management, and environmental contributions to society.
- A key EPP objective is that by the end of fiscal 2009, all Fujitsu business units will increase the number of Super Green Products (those with the most advanced environmental-friendly characteristics) by at least 20 percent.

Quotes
Richard McCormack, senior vice president of marketing for Fujitsu Computer Systems: "Joining the SmartWay Transport Partnership is another concrete way we can act on our deep commitment to environmental responsibility. We are proud of the leadership we've shown over the years, observing all environmental regulations in our business operations while actively pursuing environmental protection activities on our own initiative. This has led to innovative programs such as installing a hydrogen fuel cell that will reduce our environmental impact and initiating reforestation activities to mitigate existing damage. With protecting the environment a key value in 'The Fujitsu Way,' our corporate value statement, we will continue to look at every possible way to contribute to solving one of the world's most daunting challenges."
