Because the device runs on the Windows CE operating system, applications can be written in languages that include Visual C++, Visual Basic, Java, and HTML script based on the manufacturer's WebDevice Web-enabling software. Standard networking and utility software includes TCP/IP, SNMP, and network management provided by a Web server application that comes standard with the computer.
Features also include two COM ports, with one offering a 5V power connector for 2D scanners and other autoID devices; a built-in bar code decoder that is compatible with bar code wands and both decoded and undecoded laser scanners; and an optional digital I/O module. In addition, the computer includes a PCMCIA slot and integral connectors, enabling the addition of a third-party external keyboard, mouse, or VGA monitor.
The case offer large programmable function keys that are visually cued to the LCD screen for use as soft-keys or menu selectors. Two LED indicators provide terminal status, and six additional LED indicators are user-definable. The unit can be mounted flush in a cutout in a machine or in a wall, placed on a horizontal surface, or mounted. Extended temperatures are possible with an optional display heater.
