FreightScan Announces Bar Code Scanning Functionality For FS100
FreightScan, LLC, a leader in the development and deployment of innovative technology solutions for the freight and logistics industry announced two new additions to the functionality of its revolutionary FreightScan FS100 automated dimensioning system for cargo scanning including the ability to trigger a scan with a bar code reader and a powerful data solution that enables the use of a remote trigger of the scanning system.
"This functionality was developed as a result of a pilot program we are currently engaged in with Martinair Cargo," said André Johnson, CEO of FreightScan. "The Martinair facility in Bogota, Columbia, processes more than 10,000 flower boxes per day, and requires the ability to trigger scans for collecting dimensions with extreme speed."
Using a universal bar code reader, the FS100 captures the information from the bar code and automatically populates the air waybill field and triggers a scan in less than one second. The resulting dimensions are then associated with the correct air waybill in a database. Additionally, the FS100 scanner has been adjusted to accommodate the cargo acceptance process at the Bogota facility, resulting in a total scan time of 1.5 seconds per box.
"We have been very impressed with how the FreightScan team has approached this pilot," said Carlos Scott, Director of Cargo Operations in the Americas for Martinair Cargo. "FreightScan's top management personally visited our Bogota facility in order to observe the workflow first hand, and then produced the modifications to their core product within a matter of weeks. We are looking forward to the results of this pilot, as a system for automatically providing dimensions for thousands of pieces of cargo would be extremely valuable to our cargo operations."
In addition to the bar code functionality, FreightScan has also developed a powerful "thin client" data solution that allows for a simplified wireless user interface to trigger a scan remotely from the FS100 terminal. This feature was designed for cargo operations utilizing forklift scales and facilities with operational functions that benefit from triggering a scan from the PC terminal without interfering with the workflow process.
"Our value proposition for cargo operations is very simple," stated Johnson: "Create value by automating the process of collecting measurements and calculating dimensional weight, and do it in a way that does not interfere with workflow. In fact, we are near completion of an analysis that quantifies the cost savings in manpower by eliminating the need for any type of manual measurement – that includes handheld devices as well as tape measurers. We have made it our priority to work in the field in order to better understand the specific needs of air cargo operations. Our ability to quickly deliver solutions such as the system modifications made for Martinair Cargo is an excellent example of the difference between developing an interesting piece of technology versus delivering a solution to cargo companies that generates substantial ROI."
The FreightScan FS100 system, which utilizes groundbreaking D.I.M.M. Tech (Defined Imaging and Multiple Measurement Technology), exceeds all existing standards for static dimming systems in the cargo industry. For the first time in the industry, it enables cargo and logistics companies to collect accurate and reliable dimensions and calculate chargeable weight for multiple packages, in all configurations, with a single scan, in a matter of seconds. The system captures a digital and laser image for 100% of scanned freight, and incorporates that visual record with every waybill. The automated data generation of correct dimensions and chargeable weight generates virtually instantaneous revenue gains for users with very little capital investment.
Delivering unprecedented ease of deployment, the FreightScan FS100 system is compact and installs virtually anywhere in a warehouse, 15 feet off the floor, to streamline the dimming process and maximize warehouse resources. It is capable of scanning a one-lot shipment in four seconds, and a multi-lot shipment in 6-8 seconds, delivering individual dims for each package to within one inch of accuracy. The company has received outstanding results from pilot programs, and estimates that for a cargo operation that handles 200 shipments a day, the FreightScan FS100 system can generate additional annual revenues by as much as $1.2M.
