EXE Technologies Named Leader of Global Warehouse Management Systems Market

EXE Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: EXEE) announced today that it was named the top supplier of warehouse management systems (WMS) software and services by ARC Advisory Group. According to the analyst firm's recent "Warehouse Management Systems Worldwide Outlook" study, EXE holds nearly 11 percent of the worldwide market, which surpassed $840 million in 2000 and is expected to double to more than $1.66 billion by the end of 2005.

According to ARC, EXE Technologies is the leading WMS supplier to Tier 1 customers, those with over $1 billion in annual revenues and responsible for purchasing 39 percent of worldwide WMS software and services in 2000. EXE also leads WMS suppliers in the distribution and retail and third party logistics sectors and is successfully extending its reach in the manufacturing sector.

"The ability to rollout and support a warehouse management systems solution globally is becoming increasingly important, especially among Tier 1 customers and larger third-party logistics providers," said Steve Banker, director of Supply Chain Solutions for ARC and author of the study. "EXE has the greatest worldwide implementation capabilities in this marketplace."

While EXE is prominent in both North American and European markets, they are the dominant supplier in Asia, owning a third of the market. Currently, EXE is the most global of the leading WMS suppliers based on market shares outside of a company's home base.

"Rapidly building strong market share, both domestically and internationally as well as in the various market segments, bolsters EXE's presence as a global supplier," said Ray Hood, EXE president and CEO. "EXE's success in the warehouse management systems market can be attributed to the proven capability of our EXceed(TM) solution to reduce distribution costs and increase customer loyalty and satisfaction on a global scale."

EXE tops the list of WMS suppliers who capture 60 percent or more of total revenues from Tier 1 customers. EXE's 23 percent market share in the Tier 1 market is more than two times that of the next largest supplier to this customer class. In addition, EXE is also a key supplier to Tier 2 customers - those with $250 to $1 billion in revenues - with a nine percent market share.

Another strong suit of the EXE solution is diversity, which is evidenced by the company's sturdy presence in all three industrial sectors: distribution and retail, manufacturing and third-party logistics. Traditionally strong in grocery, EXE holds a leading 12 percent share of the distribution and retail sector. They also command the lead in third-party logistics with a 17 percent share and is among the top suppliers to the manufacturing sector with a six percent share.

ARC's "Warehouse Management Systems Global Outlook" study provides a comprehensive assessment of the WMS marketplace, including market size, segmentation, forecasts, supplier market shares and profiles and important issues that will impact the future of this market. Information was gathered through interviews with more than 60 WMS suppliers around the world and through examination of public filings required by the Securities Exchange Commission. Market share figures are derived from software and service revenues. Hardware revenues are excluded from this study because ARC views the sale of hardware as a low value-add service that does not reflect true market strength.
