Eagle USA Airfreight Changing Its Name

Eagle USA Airfreight Inc. will change its name to EGL Inc. to reflect its increased global business, more diversified service and long-term growth strategy.

Eagle USA Airfreight started operating by forwarding freight only in the United States. The company expanded services to include ground, ocean and logistics.

"In the past eight years alone, Eagle has grown from a private company with fewer than 300 domestic employees to a company of more than 3,000 people working in 90 locations in nine countries around the globe," Chairman and Chief Executive Officer James R. Crane said. "As we continue our international growth, it's important that our name be representative of our broader markets and services while continuing to leverage our investment in the Eagle brand."

The company offered no explanation in a press release posted on its Web site for why the name change will better meet global business needs or serve long-term strategies.

Besides the name change, Eagle has changed its Nasdaq stock-trading symbol to "EAGL." Shares are expected to begin trading under the new ticker symbol on the morning of Feb. 28. Eagle trades on the Nasdaq-Amex National Market now under the symbol "EUSA."

The company has operated its businesses worldwide under the name EGL Eagle Global Logistics since October.
