DHL Expands In Louisville, Ky.
DHL, one of the leading global express delivery and logistics company, announced the opening of a new facility near the Louisville International Airport in Kentucky. DHL has invested $2.7M in the new service center facility, consolidating all local operations to enhance services for DHL customers shipping to and from the region.
The new, 64,000-sq.-ft. service center combines a facility east of Louisville and DHL's previous operations near the airport to one service center strategically located across from Standiford Field. The location is home to DHL's local pickup, delivery and sorting operations, and provides a base for local sales employees.
"DHL is continually looking for ways to improve and augment service for customers through strategic investments in our U.S. operations," said John Cameron, executive vice president of Operations, for DHL. "Customers shipping to and from the Louisville region will benefit from earlier deliveries, and extending our pickup cutoff times will make it even more convenient for shippers using DHL in the area."
The pickup and delivery footprint for the new facility includes cities in and around the Louisville, Ky. metro area, east to Indiana including Austin, and as far South as cities along the Tennessee border. The new Louisville service center will handle a wide variety of shipments – including domestic and international parcels as well as palletized, loose-load and container freight.
Additional key facts about the new facility include:
- It is located at 4820 Crittenden Drive
- The facility employs 125, including couriers, administrative staff, managers, sales and security personnel.
- The new facility can process shipments 50 percent faster than the previous operation.
- The new service center has 84 load positions to accommodate more vehicles and volumes of freight.
- Customers can drop off packages at the new facility between 8:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and between 8:30 a.m. until noon Saturday. The counter will be staffed to help customers prepare shipments onsite.
The new service center investment is one of many initiatives that DHL has undertaken to improve U.S. network efficiencies and connectivity system-wide. DHL has recently enhanced its presence in cities across the country through new facilities in New York City; Chicago, Ill.; Charlotte, N.C.; Salt Lake City, Utah; Charleston, S.C.; White River Junction, Vt.; and Columbus, Ohio. DHL also recently completed a $1.2B build out of its U.S. domestic network and infrastructure, including an expanded primary air and ground hub in Wilmington, Ohio, seven new Regional Sort Centers located throughout the country, and the development of new, state-of-the-art distribution facilities for the east and west coasts in Allentown, Pa., and Riverside, Calif.
