CSX Transportation appoints chief mechanical officer for locomotives

Gerald D. Siers has been named chief mechanical officer, locomotives, for CSX Transportation Inc. (CSXT).

Siers succeeds Michael L. Wall, who recently was named vice president, mechanical operations.

CSX said that Siers would report to Wall and would oversee acquisition, maintenance and availability of the CSXT locomotive fleet, and operation of locomotive facilities, which includes maintenance shops, running-repair shops, servicing facilities and heavy-repair shops.

He will remain in Jacksonville, Florida, the headquarters of CSX Transportation Inc., a unit of Richmond, Virginia, based CSX Corp.

CSX said that Siers, a Louisville, Kentucky, native began his career with a CSXT predecessor in 1963 as a carman apprentice. He has served in numerous positions in operations, including director of shop programs, general manager of operations planning, general manager of locomotive shops and assistant chief mechanical officer for locomotives, which was his most recent position.

CSXT has 35,000 employees. The company provides rail-transportation and distribution services over a 23,000 route-mile network in 23 states, the District of Columbia and two Canadian provinces.
