Crain's Detroit Business

Taylor Systems Engineering Corp. Taylor and <%=company%> were recently featured in the 'Technology' section of "Crain's Detroit Business"in an article written by Michael Maurer. The column detailed how area companies are utilizing Taylor's expertise in computerized shipping systems to enhance overall profitability, through the design, construction and integration of shipping and receiving systems with general and business accounting systems (including related software). Three companies in particular were profiled:

H.O. Trerice is a manufacturer of industrial thermometers and pressure-control instruments for the commercial heating and cooling industry based in Oak Park. TAYLOR Systems Engineering connected the shipping departments of its two facilities and added a credit-checking function. According to Janet Gentry, manager of the company's management-information system, the benefits realized were almost immediate: "In the first hour the system was up, it stopped one credit-hold order from going out the door as well as a duplicate shipment. There were too many hands in the pie Ñ pickers, packers and shippers. This saved us an immense amount of money."

J.H. Bennett Co. in Novi, distributes hydraulic and pneumatic components for automotive and other suppliers. As late as 1993, the company processed 70-100 packages a day by hand with a 10 percent error rate. Subsequent to consulting with TAYLOR Systems Engineering, says inventory-control manager Michael O'Brien, error rates have become almost non-existent, while, the company's accounting department is saving 2-3 man hours per day.

Merle Distributing, a Redford Township book distributor, was realizing only 60 to 70 percent accuracy with its previous, primarily manual shipping system. Now, utilizing TAYLOR Systems Engineering technology integrated into the company's computer, president John Buell boasts a 95 percent accuracy rate; the system paid for itself in 6 months.
