ChemLogix LLC Optimizes Chemical Logistics Operations With Sterling Transportation Management System

Leading Chemical Industry Logistics Provider Leverages Sterling TMS Optimizer, a Next-Generation Optimization Engine, to Drive Cost out of Transportation Operations

Chicago, IL -(Marketwire ) - At the Council of Supply Chain Management Professional (CSCMP) Conference, Sterling Commerce, an AT&T Inc (NYSE:T - News) company, today announced that ChemLogix, LLC, the leading provider of comprehensive chemical industry logistics management and technology services, has implemented Sterling TMS Optimizer, a solution in Sterling Transportation Management System (TMS) that enables companies to optimize and transform their transportation network.

Sterling TMS, part of the Sterling Selling and Fulfillment Suite, enables efficient planning and execution of both inbound and outbound transportation processes. It offers a collaborative logistics network of more than 8,500 carriers transacting more than 8 million shipments per year. It provides ChemLogix with advanced logistics capabilities, including order/load consolidation for multi-stop pickup and delivery shipments as well as dynamic pool-point management. These capabilities complement Sterling TMS' core strengths in shipment visibility, proactive notification on potential customer service issues, robust cost and service reporting, and better control over the freight management process.

"ChemLogix is dedicated to solving our customers' most vital logistics challenges by leveraging chemical industry expertise with best-of-breed technology to deliver measurable, sustainable value," said Mike Skinner, Vice President of ChemLogix Technologies. "Sterling TMS provides our technology advantage, enabling ChemLogix to deliver on-demand TMS functionality as well as customized freight management outsourcing services to our clients, including carrier cost benchmarking, carrier contract management and full shipment execution capabilities. Sterling TMS Optimizer is a next-generation optimization engine specifically tailored to transportation planning. It enables ChemLogix to provide chemical shippers with automated order bundling, mode and carrier selection, automated LTL-TL consolidation process, and the ability to optimally plan and route multi-stop bulk truck deliveries.

Sterling TMS Optimizer helps ChemLogix and its customers reduce their transportation costs by providing enhanced route planning capabilities for more precise rating, mileage, transit time and expanded mode selection. It plans the most cost-effective way to deliver orders across all modes of transportation by factoring in order types and taking into account all of the shipment constraints such as transit time and dimensions of shipments. To accommodate today's dynamic supply chains, Sterling Optimizer is completely configurable by the user and can be implemented quickly and modified easily to support ongoing changes.

"With the increasing velocity of change in today's supply chains, companies can no longer optimize once and go," said Cory Wiegert, vice president, Applications Product Line, at Sterling Commerce. "Sterling TMS Optimizer provides ChemLogix with a powerful tool to manage the dynamic supply chain needs of its customers. By leveraging its configuration capabilities, ChemLogix can meet all of their clients' unique requirements for their distribution networks."
