BLG Also Performs Order Picking For Engelbert Strauss In Frankfurt

BLG Retail Logistics commenced its extended logistics services for client engelbert strauss at the Frankfurt location punctually on October 1, 2013. BLG has been replenishing the order picking section at engelbert strauss in Biebergmünd since the beginning of the year.

Shortly after the start BLG and engelbert strauss agreed that order picking volumes in Frankfurt would also be handled by BLG in future. The professed goal for engelbert strauss was to launch operation by October 1, thus providing relief for its own location in the upcoming peak quarter. For this purpose it was necessary to set up an order picking warehouse offering access to over 5,000 articles. Special carts making it possible to handle 28 orders at the same time were designed for the actual order picking activities. The Frankfurt location also purchased suitable moving aids.

The items placed in shipping cartons are now taken from the order picking section to the ground floor via new conveyor lines. A 100 percent check takes place at up to 40 stations there. In addition, goods are packed, promotional material is inserted as required and lids as well as shipping labels are attached. For this purpose, too, the BLG Retail Logistics team developed and implemented a concept within an extremely short time. Apart from the technical systems, the existing warehouse management software was also replaced in the course of the project. Well timed test and introduction management ensured that tests could be carried out with real goods even before the agreed time. This involved familiarization of new staff members as well as setting up an organization team that is now performing this job.

In the coming year the capacity is to be gradually increased so that engelbert strauss can handle its growing volume with the help of BLG.
