ACTIV is a fully automated, high-density technology capable of receiving, identifying, sorting, and dispatching unit loads in ambient as well as refrigerated/frozen environments.

ACTIV is a fully automated, high-density technology capable of receiving, identifying, sorting, and dispatching unit loads in ambient as well as refrigerated/frozen environments. It is suitable for both existing and new facilities, including rack-supported buildings.

Originally developed in Finland by Naaraharju Oy, the technology is patented as a mechanical system capable of high product throughput. To date, there are 40 systems successfully operating worldwide. RETROTECH is the exclusive licensee/supplier of this technology for North and South America.

ACTIV provides high flow capacity and brings cost savings in the utilization of space and the reduction in labor.

The system's design flexibility makes it uniquely suitable for handling of a variety of materials. The technology is not restricted to size or form. Through its modular structure, it is capable of meeting the changing needs of the modern warehouse.

Unit loads can be handled in both the vertical and horizontal positions, with or without internal system pallets. Combined with a Warehouse Management System, ACTIV forms a value-added part of an efficient logistics operation.

How ACTIV Works...

The ACTIV technology consists of four key components and the software that operates the system:
  • Rack Structure
  • Deep Lane Transfer (DLT)
  • Cross-Aisle Transfer (CAT)
  • Vertical Transfer Lift (VTL)
  • Systems Software
ACTIV's system components work in unison to buffer, sort, and pre-stage unit loads within its rack footprint. With this unique technology, loads move in a continuous flow through the system. ACTIV also supports, within its footprint, such value-added operations as picking and pick face replenishment.

All controls and drives are located outside the rack structure area, which simplifies maintenance. This is especially beneficial for such controlled environments as coolers, freezers, and hot rooms where the controls and drives can be positioned outside the controlled environment.
