Solectek Signs Contract With Koito Of Japan For Wireless Telemetry System For Trains
San Diego, CA - Solectek Corporation, one of the leading manufacturer of wireless equipment, and Koito Industries, Ltd., a provider of monitoring and diagnostics systems for the transportation industry, signed a contract whereby Solectek will engineer and manufacture a communication system for trains. Solectek will design the wireless communication platform for Koito's MDS (Monitoring and Diagnostics System), which is a microprocessor imbedded system that collects, processes and stores train car and sub-system information to enhance maintenance, operational efficiency and safety.
"This contract marks a milestone for Solectek, as we broaden our product line and diversify into wireless sectors that leverage our core technologies and expertise," said Dr. Eric Lee, President & CEO of Solectek. "Koito is a well respected supplier to the transportation industry with significant contracts worldwide. Solectek is excited to work on this project, which entails contract engineering services and manufacturing."
Solectek will design and manufacture transceivers that are permanently installed in each rail car, and the base stations which will be deployed at railway stations. The system will utilize Solectek's advanced MIMO (multiple input, multiple output) technology to minimize data errors and optimize throughput. When a train pulls into a station, each car will wirelessly transmit information to the base station, which then relays the information to a central control system that provides valuable data for the operator to optimize their rolling stock fleet.
In the United States, the system will be deployed to customers by KPS N.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Koito Industries.
