Transportation Insight Announces New Downtown Hickory Corporate Campus

Third-Party Logistics Provider Invests In Redevelopment Of Historic Lyerly Full Fashioned Mill

Globally recognized third-party logistics (3PL) provider Transportation Insight announces its intent to develop a new corporate campus in downtown Hickory, NC to be completed by the end of 2015.  Transportation Insight was founded in Hickory, NC in 1999 and has become one of the most successful 3PLs in North America. Over the past 15 years, the rapidly growing supply chain management firm has assembled a series of corporate facilities in Hickory including offices near First Baptist Church and CenturyLink.  The new Transportation Insight corporate campus will be located at the site of the historic Lyerly Full Fashioned Mill at the intersection of Highway 127 and 1st Avenue in downtown Hickory. The development is being handled by affiliate OHM Holdings, Inc. for the benefit of Transportation Insight.

Once complete Transportation Insight’s new corporate campus at the renovated Lyerly Mill will feature 70,000 square feet of office space. Transportation Insight primarily chose the Lyerly Mill site, because it is part of the revitalization of the downtown Hickory area. “Transportation Insight remains committed to Hickory, to our community and to the next generation of young working Americans,” says Chairman and Founder Paul Thompson.  “Many young adults today no longer value suburban living and instead are seeking a downtown work/life experience within a revitalized, livable community where associates can experience daily outdoor living and recreation programs.”

Accentuating the recreational aspects of a lifestyle business, phase two of the Transportation Insight corporate campus will feature a gymnasium, basketball facilities and an athletic field. Toby Tate, Managing Partner of OHM Holdings, LLC, says, “Transportation Insight is committed to investing in Hickory’s urban development and a lifestyle business that promotes physical activity and a better overall quality of life for employees.”

“Since our founding, Transportation Insight has focused on positioning our associates for success, both personally and professionally,” says President and CEO Chris Baltz. “The development of this new facility fortifies our commitment to an environment that promotes a well-rounded lifestyle, along with our company’s spirit of collaboration, innovation and long-term growth.”

Scott Millar, President of the Catawba County Economic Development Corporation, hopes Transportation Insight’s project will set the stage for other urban revitalization projects in the area. “We believe this is a fabulous use of a historic city asset. The Lyerly Mill was built in the 1930’s, and it is exciting to watch a great new facility developing,” says Millar. “It has been wonderful to see the character of the entire project and the character of Transportation Insight come together to drive so much energy into our downtown Hickory job corridors. We believe the new Transportation Insight corporate complex will be another vibrant city showpiece where we hope to see 300-400 employees as the company grows.”

The Transportation Insight corporate complex project is subject to formal approvals by local and state authorities. The Lyerly Mill is the only surviving two-story hosiery mill dating from the early 1900s.
