The new Power Rover data transceiver is designed for wireless applications ranging from connecting to the Internet to monitoring equipment remotely.

The manufacturer states that the transceiver interfaces with almost any communications device up to 19 miles away, transferring data or allowing equipment to communicate. For shorter distances, the device can work through walls, concrete, and other obstacles. In addition, the transceiver can replace serial cable (RS-232) connections for data communications at baud rates up to 115 KBPS, offering users freedom from phone lines and interfacing with most communications devices with an asynchronous RS-232 port. Because it transmits within a public license-exempt band of the radio spectrum, there are no access fees.

Depending on the user's needs, the transceiver can be programmed for point-to-point, point-to-multi-point or a combination of the two. With point-to-point operation, two machines located in different rooms, floors and even buildings can transfer data and communicate with each other. The manufacturer states that the versatility of options increase with point-to-multi-point operation, which allows multiple machines to "talk" to each other while maintaining 100% data integrity when transmitting and receiving multi-megabyte files.

The data transceiver can be used for a variety of applications and industries including automatic ID; machine-controlled robotics; inventory control management; signature recognition; global positioning; factory automation; satellite dish/PC links; point-of-sale retail; security applications; and serial printers.
