Think Logistics Scheme Launched By FTA

(PRWEB UK) - The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has announced the launch of its new Think Logistics partnership - a scheme that will aim to promote careers within the freight and logistics sectors to students across the UK.

Becoming an official sponsor for the Think Logistics programme, the FTA will be working with educators, industry bodies, professionals and firms across the length and breadth of the country to attract more young people into the field of logistics in the years ahead.

Aimed at students aged from 16 to 19 years old, the scheme will aim to address the current 60,000 shortfall in professional drivers - a number that is forecast to increase if forthright action is not now taken - that is hindering many haulage providers from fulfilling their potential in the economic recovery.

FTA deputy chief executive James Hookham commented: "Think Logistics is an inspired project led by its founder Steve Granite aimed at making this industry understandable to the next generation of drivers, managers and technicians.

"FTA is pleased to be supporting and helping [to] develop the project, and delivering programmes at this scale across the country ... as part of our skills development campaign."

The partnership will now run for an initial three-year period, with the FTA to encourage all of its members to participate in workshops in local schools and colleges throughout the UK to help highlight the many varied and rewarding careers that are available within the logistics industry.
