With more and more companies implementing the new generation of ERP systems, there is a need for supporting systems to automate the input of data into these systems in an accurate, timely manner. The value of these ERP systems is to provide managerial and operational controls. Without good data, these systems do not fulfill their intended purpose.

Critical Issue
Interfacing available data collection and data acquisition systems with the ERP systems; getting accurate and timely data into the ERP system and, most importantly, using the business logic within the ERP system with no modifications.

Problem
Most of today's popular ERP systems such as SAP®, Oracle, JDEdwards, QAD, PeopleSoft, Baan, etc. are screen entry based systems. That is, the presentation layer is based on a Windows environment and data is entered through a networked PC. Little, if any, consideration is given to portable data collection technologies, such as radio frequency, commonly in use in warehouses and manufacturing facilities.

Vision
To provide a standard methodology and process to interface data collection equipment into the ERP systems while utilizing the systems' business logic, and requiring no changes in the ERP system.

Solution
Infoscan, with its Data Wrench tool set, and in partnership and tools from several other industry leading software providers, (IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, Wall Data) has developed a method (programs) that allow the interfacing and integration of data collection technology into today's ERP systems. Platforms supported include: AS/400, Mainframe, Unix, & Windows / NT.

The systems provide seamless interfaces into the application system with no modification to the application. The interface is based on the ERP system and the functional requirements of the customer. Systems currently interfaced to are: JDE, JBA, QAD, SAP, Pansophic, IBM 3090 custom, & Ramco Marshall. Under development: Oracle, Baan, Symix and others.

Benefits

  • ERP's business logic is used.
  • No modification to the Host application is required.
  • Quality of information is enhanced by automated data collection.
  • Data entry labor costs are reduced significantly.
  • High System Availability is ensured.
  • People and Systems function more efficiently.
  • High ROI, Low cost of implementation.
