Shipwire Adds 25-Year Retail Veteran To Leadership Team In Bid To Change How Web Retailers Deliver Their Products To Customers

Shipwire, Inc. recently announced the addition of recognized warehouse and logistics industry expert Saul Smith to its management team in the role of vice president of warehouse operations. The hiring coup is Shipwire's latest strategic move in its bid to reshape how small and growing Web merchants store, sell and ship their products worldwide.

Saul will ensure Shipwire continues to meet the complex warehouse and fulfillment needs of growing merchants as Shipwire adds additional domestic and international warehouses – delivering on a shared vision to help Web retailers grow their businesses by removing the hassles of storage and shipping. As part of his global distribution strategy, Saul is opening Shipwire's first international warehouse in Toronto, Canada. (For more detail, please see press release, "Shipwire Adds Canadian Warehouse and Extends Growing Web Retailers' North American Reach," also dated November 12, 2007.)

Saul comes to Shipwire from Superba, a leading manufacturer and distributor of apparel in North America that was recently purchased by Phillips-Van Heusen Corporation (PVHC). Over the course of 25 years, Saul helped Superba scale from $17 million to more than $200 million in sales, leading the supply-chain efficiencies that PVHC identified as a key reason for the acquisition. At Superba, Saul oversaw the distribution and shipment of more than 20 million units per year with over 20,000 individual product IDs, and he coordinated the manufacturing, logistics and distribution centers worldwide, including Superba's 350,000 sq-ft manufacturing and distribution campus in Los Angeles and Latin America.

"Small Web retailers and wholesalers need a guy like Saul running their warehouse and order fulfillment, and now with Shipwire, they can have him. Very few people in the world understand warehousing and shipment as well as Saul; Shipwire and our merchants are already seeing the benefit of his talents," said Damon Schechter, founder and CEO of Shipwire, and author of Delivering the Goods: The Art of Managing Your Supply Chain (Wiley, 2002). "Shipping and storage have always been the missing links in online ecommerce for small businesses. Shipwire is changing that, and Saul is the right guy to scale the Shipwire solution globally."

"I've spent my entire career building retail storage and shipping operations. Whether the merchant is in wholesale, retail or a manufacturer, the largest pain point is in warehouse and distribution. Small retailers are simply not well served today and are excluded from services and facilities, like a Class A warehouse space, designed to reduce order fulfillment pain points," says Saul. "My vision with Shipwire is to level the playing field and give these under-served businesses a partner that understands the global movement of goods and buying power to compete in the cut-throat global supply chain. That is what I wish I had, when I got started 25 years ago." Saul continues, "For growing businesses, I say, 'Outsource this pain point to Shipwire, and let us deal with the headaches so that you can focus on growth'."
