Realistic Simulations For An Optimal Warehouse And Space Management

New version of ORion-PI® Logistics Optimization of Axxom Software AG increases transparency about costs, performance and quality in intra-logistics.

Munich, Germany — The new version of the solution ORion-PI® Logistics Optimization of Axxom Software AG provides several new features and functions for the improvement of warehouse processes. Using realistic simulations of different scenarios, the software allows for example the efficient analysis and optimization of warehouse assignments, pick strategies or different warehouse and material handling technologies. Thus, the new version of ORion-PI® supports companies in designing new as well as in restructuring existing distribution centers and logistics systems.

What kind of structure and equipment does make sense in a warehouse? Where to store new articles or special campaign and seasonal products? What is the optimal order picking strategy? What manpower is required for the efficient handling of the upcoming order volume and how does an optimized layout look like? Questions like this are difficult to answer. The problem is: How can the impacts of different measures in a warehouse be analyzed without being carried out in reality with high expenses?

The new version of ORion-PI® Logistics Optimization helps to answer these questions. The software?s new features for warehouse and space management enable users to easily and quickly build a virtual, true-to-scale model of their logistics system, which can be used to simulate different strategies and changes in the warehouse.

The speciality of ORion-PI®: To define operative costs in intra-logistics, the solution applies the real working effort. For this, components of the virtual warehouse model like racks, shelves and routes obtain time components like MTM or Refa times or time components from the incentive scheme of the customer. Unlike ordinary simulation systems which simply work with average times, ORion-PI® can also handle very dynamic information. The user benefits from realistic simulations which for example allow the comparison of different warehouse models, strategic layout planning and operative storage and relocation of articles. This results in an increased performance of the whole logistics system and lays the basis for an efficient staff planning in a warehouse ? for example with the solution ORion-PI® Workforce@Logistics of Axxom.

Basis for the simulations with ORion-PI® Logistics Optimization is a geometrical model of the warehouse layout. Thus using the solution, users can easily and quickly build warehouse components like pick locations, racks and shelves, assign stations to different warehouse zones or areas and define dimensions and types of racks and shelves. Even the modelling of huge warehouses with tens of thousands of storage locations can be accomplished within just a few days with ORion-PI®.
