Psion Teklogix Sets Industry Benchmark With Introduction Of New Hand-Held Computer
June 5, 2003
Psion Teklogix (LSE: PON), a global leader in rugged mobile computing devices and wireless LAN systems implementation and support, today unveiled its next generation rugged hand-held computer to the North American market. Setting a benchmark for the rugged hand-held computing industry, the 7535 is a powerful Windows CE .NET-based device that provides the performance and durability required for mobile data collection in harsh environments in a user-friendly package. The device combines class-leading ruggedness, ease of integration, extensive flexibility and outstanding ergonomics to offer customers a low total cost of ownership and a greater return on their technology investment.
With an industry-leading IP 65 rating for protection from dust and water, the 7535 can withstand high levels of shock and vibration, as well as multiple drops to concrete from heights of 6.5 feet. This ruggedness is delivered without compromise to ergonomics: developed with the input of ergonomic experts to ensure maximum comfort and ease of use for long periods of time, the 7535 is lightweight, ideally balanced and equipped with a large color touch screen for ease of visibility.
"Psion Teklogix's 7535 hand-held computer is an innovative product developed with the needs of the customer in mind," said Tim Shea, senior industry analyst, Venture Development Corporation. "From the accuracy of the scanner to the ergonomic design and ruggedness of the product, the 7535 offers features that can make a huge difference in worker productivity." A breadth of radio, scanning, keyboard and display options, coupled with a wide range of accessories makes the 7535 suitable for traditional supply chain and logistics markets as well as other "outside the warehouse" mobile computing implementations. When equipped with a radio and integrated scanner, for example, the computer is an ideal fit for automatic data capture applications. The 7535 also offers easy integration with current and future technologies. It has the power to run GUI-based, thick client applications, yet is backwards compatible to work with text-only applications such as those on the Psion Teklogix 7035. This flexibility enables companies to achieve a greater return on their mobile technology investments.
"As workforce mobilization expands both within and beyond the warehouse and the need for timely, accurate data collection and distribution processes increases, the push is on for more powerful, user-friendly and cost-effective hand-held computers," said Dan Schachtler, director of product management, Psion Teklogix. "The 7535 was developed with extensive customer feedback to ensure it would meet mobile workers' needs not only today, but in the future."
The 7535 runs on the Windows CE .NET operating system, addressing the growing popularity of this operating system in the automatic identification and data collection market.
Windows CE .NET provides ease of integration with enterprise infrastructures as well as the ability to run sophisticated end-user applications. The incorporation of other industry standards such as 802.11, Intel Xscale, RFID, Bluetooth and GSM/GPRS ensures the 7535 can be easily integrated into a wide variety of enterprise mobile computing projects both today and in the future.
