Out With The Old, In With The New: McNairn Packaging Upgrades And Updates Its Distribution Center With RF Technology

McNairn Packaging, a manufacturer and distributor of food packaging products was experiencing a common difficulty – trying to bridge the gap between old and new technologies. A new enterprise resource planning (ERP) system developed by CMS, a provider of supply chain management software, had been recently installed in the distribution center, enabling serialized barcode labelling, real-time shop floor reporting, materials and logistics management and financial management. But the RF system being used was outdated and was not fully compatible with CMS's software. Downtime was a regular occurrence, resulting in challenges for warehouse employees who were trying to complete orders on time.
After the implementation of the Psion Teklogix RF system, McNairn was able to move to a bin-managed system, which has had a tremendous impact on efficiency since employees can work on the next day's orders instead of having to rely on a daily shipping routine.
